A sociological analysis of the organizational consequences and lessons drawn from recent and on-going missions.
This study is being conducted jointly by
U.S.-CREST and the Fondation pour la Recherche Startégique (FRS). It seeks to understand the emergence of new concepts, what contributes to their durability (or lack thereof) and their impact on the conduct of operations.
The following concepts will be studied: network centric warfare; effects based approaches to operations; the comprehensive approach; the imbroglio of irregular warfare, counterinsurgency and stability operations; Provincial Reconstruction Teams and; the "strategic corporal".
The study will examine these concepts based on an analysis framework looking at:

How the concept is being diffused
To what degree has the dissemination of the concept modified its content/aim
To what degree has the concept been accepted & internalized by stakeholders
What was the cause of the innovation
Where the new concept originated from
What the new concept aims to accomplish
What the impact of the concept is (organizationally and on actors in the field)
The study will be completed by June 2010 and will be published by the
Centre d'Études en Sciences Sociales de la Défense (C2SD).
